follow the rules is the answer I have.

Muslims and Jews dont eat pork - belief is the pig is a dirty animal.

Hindus dont eat beef. belief here is the cow is a sacred animal.

Most hindus dont eat any meat (my mom does not mind frying some eggs for me when I visit, but she wont eat it, and keeps a separate skillet for my eggs).

go figure.

I'm not a religious person either.

But Jews, for example, do the "silly" things they do because it's in the Bible. Orthodox Jews believe the Bible is the word of God and they try to live according what they believe are God's laws.

The Bible says don't eat pork and that women should dress modestly, and a whole bunch of other things too, like keep the sabbath holy. Orthodox Jews are very rigorous and strict about observing the sabbath...
