One of my hippie brothers-lol.

That is often how people behave when they have the confidence to buck societies norms and mores. When the have the power to be free.

Berkeley, which was the headquarters for the 60's counter culture movement had a lot of characters like that. I loved those rebels-lol.

At Berkeley they even had a guy who went to class naked-lol.

What the youngsters do not know is that until the 60's existential movement, the whole country and world was very very conformist. One was not allowed to break the norms and mores by thinking for themselves.

Whatever the social and religous dogma of the society, the members of the culture had to follow the script ver batim.

Trying to get individual freedoms from society was THE battle of the 60's. And it was a raging battle. There was a reason it was centered at Berkeley as that group was the smartest and most educated university students on the west coast.

I have been watching a lot of documentaries on very primitive tribes (to try and understand our biological hardware less polluted by cultrual evolution) and the one thing which stands out in my mind is the almost total conformity required by the members of every tribe I have watched so far.

The women, of course, always get the short end of the stick. But I also see lots of sadness based on things like arranged marriages, etc,
