After a week-long battle, firefighters have finally subdued the worst blaze to hit California's Lake Tahoe region in a century. But to Linda Adams, who heads California's Environmental Protection Agency, it is only a sign of things to come. "We can expect a lot more of this. More fires, more drought. This is global warming," says Ms Adams. I had to laugh. Some national weatherman was talking about the current heat wave. He was saying that people are fearful the heat wave is an example of global warming. In an attempt to be reassuring, he continued by saying that this kind of heat wave is normal for summer just not this early. Huh? Why do I not I feel reassured?
