Ted, > What overgrowth? There isn't any overgrowth.

I guess when firefighters do controlled burns of overgrowth, they're just doing it because the GOP wants more money ...

They are called burnbacks........firefighters burn any brush and trees in the path of a brush or forest fire so that the fire loses its fuel and goes out. In S. CA when they talk about overgrowth, they mean the plants that pop up after the winter rains. The term 'overgrowth' suggest there is too much growth.....but that's according to firefighters. In reality, its simply what nature does when it has water and sun.....it grows plants. Firefighters probably would prefer there was no growth but unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your perspective, that ain't going to happen. What makes things worse in S. CA is that a lot of the 'overgrowth' is eucalyptus-like plants imported from AU that have a great deal of oil in them. Consequently, they burn very hot and very long.

As for GOP involvement, I am not sure what that has to do with anything other than the GOP is usually behind anything that is bad for us. ;-)
