It's been a long time. I don't recall snobbery as the issue. As I recall it, our discussion was about whether or not the phrase I used was offensive. I considered it descriptive and I used it teasingly and without rancor. I finally accepted your notion that it was offensive and I stopped using it. It was no different from some man referring to a woman as a "girl" not recognizing that she might be offended and arguing that she shouldn't feel offended by it. But like I said, it's been a long time.

It's useless to try to tell people that they shouldn't be offended by something you say in good faith. If they want to be offended, they will be offended based as much on their inner demons as what you said. Sometimes, though, I can't resist trying to analyze the fascinating dynamics. Apparently they don't fascinate universally.
