The difference is that you believe big government bureaucracies can work as long as we have competent people in charge.

My belief is that even the most competent people will be stymied by big government bureaucracies. Some of this might be unavoidable given how big and diverse our country's needs are, but I would much rather err on the side of smaller, more efficient, and less intrusive government.
