We have a combination of gross distortions and exaggerations used daily in the talk-radio world and political campaigns, and the new unaccountable, untouchable Super Executive that can do whatever it likes in the name of national security, including lying through their teeth to Congress or anyone else. Put that together and the odds of an honest politician these days are really slim. More political advantage in lying and distorting, until the electorate gets sick of it all and spits these assholes out for good.

To trot out my favorite shibboleth, why is this blatant lying not being challenged by the media? (I realize that this particular case is an example of a MSM member lying, but the principle should be the same) I don't think the level of pols' mendacity is any different than usual; almost all of them will spin and lie until caught. What I do think is different is that the MSM members covering DC have become stenographers, with no long-term memory, and no associative abilities on display. Why this is, would be a topic ripe for discussion, IMO.
