he said the EU is going to fall apart - the euro is going to collapse - all europeans hate each other and none of the countries are meeting pre arranged inflation targeting goals - he said it may take 10 years but the euro is TOAST!

The new French Prez, Sarkozy, created a bit of a stir because he attended the meeting of EU finance ministers. It seems that he would like looser monetary policy and a European Central Bank that is flexible in accomodating his desire to engage in currency debasement. Normally, the Prez or PM of the Euro countries does not use a meeting of finance ministers as an opportunity for coercion.

Germany is in no position to scold the French because the French looked the other way a few years ago while Germany consistently missed its deficit:GDP benchmarks.

The Euro may not be toast, but I do not really expect the EU to become the leading world economic power.
