We could have handled Iraq like Bush41 did originally, hitting them hard and leaving as opposed to adopting 25 million Iraqis. This would have saved us a lot of money and made it clear to the region that the US was not to be trifled with. At this point however it has become a point of honor and being intimidated into withdrawal would be a huge mistake. In the Islamic world, we must remember fear and respect go hand in hand and giving the enemy a psychological victory would only encourage future reprisals here at home.

In the same post you say you don't care about labels like conservative or liberal but take pains to point out Buchanan is conservative and you agree with him on a couple things.

Personally, I agree Buchanan and Paul are generally conservative. So what? I don't care. I don't feel a need to agree with everyone who's conservative on everything. As someone said, conservatives aren't a herd.

-----------------------------

You say you agree with Buchanan on Iraq and immigration. I guess you are trying to depict yourself as something other than liberal - thats the whole point isn't it? That's why you point out conservatives who agree with you on one or two things, while simultaneously saying labels shouldn't matter.

----------------------------------

I will repeat that I think many liberals are idealizing Ron Paul right now, just as they once did McCain, because of Paul's isolationism.

They're overlooking or unaware of his opposition to gay marriage, abortion, fetal stem cell research, universal health care, Kyoto and all other environmental regulations and laws, drilling bans, higher taxes, and pretty much almost everything liberals hold dear. But then their idealizaiton of Paul doesn't mean they're actually gonna ever vote for him. When the election comes around, they'll pull the handle for Clinton - Obama or Nader. Paul is just someone to hopefully split Republicans.
