That they can. They can go after your for 7 years, if they owe you anything, it's 3 years. It can take that long for them to document anything and they they simply say, sorry, the statute of limitations is up, we don't owe you anymore. That happened to us in 1978.

My husband said just write the check. I said, it's the principal, he said yes, I understand but they are the federal government and they can do what they want. We could go broke and have to live in a cardboard box under a bridge if we try and fight them.

I wrote the friggin' check.
