Were you in Austin when they calculated that it was cheaper to make the transit system free than collecting tolls? However, making it free would be socialism, so it was decided to raise the rate to pay for the cost of collecting tolls rather than making it free... The conservative "mind" is hard to fathom sometimes.

What I don't get is they don't seem to mind the TONS of money we're blowing in this stupid war, but any pittance spent to help their fellow Americans just makes their skin crawl. Is it just mean spiritedness, or what? Its rather perplexing........I really don't know how they reach conclusions about money. What I do know is that they are very consistent........my bro-in-law in NH talks the same way as my cousin in Tennesee or the Republicans on this thread or in WA state. They don't mind their tax money spent on defense but nothing else. My sister was amazed when I told her everything her husband says to her about issues related to gov't and tax monies without ever hearing him speak....almost word for word. <g>
