From what I've read, desalinization in the US runs about 3-times the normal cost of municipal water, so it has to be a megaliter number, not milli.

In doing water cost analysis, economy of scale is the biggest differentiator, whatever the technology. Big cities with exiting infrastructure pay the least unit cost. Small communities who have to monetize the costs over a small subscriber base, charge the most.

In big cities, the cost of water used per month per person is less than one dinner at an ordinary restaurant.
