Iran's Military capability is inferior to our own.

Anyone who supposes their status of power is eternally static (most do) has not paid attention to history.

So thoughtful people (not making any assumptions by that statement) should consider how current circumstances could change?

Is it likely that the USA will continue to grow its powerful resources at the rate is has since the WWII era? The circumstances at the start of that build up were a very homogenous united culture of growing family wealth and communities willing to invest their resources in such a build up. Anyone think we've peaked on that? I do.

What about Iran, the Shi'ite capital? See any growth potential there? It not only has tremendous potential, its people have tremendous intent and resources to see it happen. The Al-Mahdi Army represents something very different. It represents an international force that has grown from a few hundred insurgents to thousands of minutemen type of militia. Each time it surfaces it is more in number and better equiped. If you really want to know it's potential, check out Moktada Al-Sadrs agenda and his agenda and very real shadow government in Southern Iraq.

What about a Sunni military capital? Well there isn't one. They tried in Afganistan. Do you think they are going to give up the idea?

"...vs. our own?"

Would you suggest we bring our military home to plant organic gardens for a couple of decades and wait to see what other forces come up with? It seems you would if that means a 'win' for some stupid politico you support.
