<<Tradelite, is there some rule in the Realtor Handbook recommending against working for family?>>

No, but there should be a rule in the Consumer Handbook about not dealing with a family-member Realtor if he/she isn't the best agent for the job. In fact, I believe there actually is such a rule, which is followed fairly religiously by astute consumers who choose their poisons carefully.

If you want your kitchen remodeled, do you automatically hire a relative because he's a relative? Some people have some real dead-beat relatives, licensed and unlicensed.

damainman....by the way, tell her to call the agent's broker and request that the broker either suggest a better agent in the firm to handle the listing contract or completely cancel the listing agreement immediately.

The broker SHOULD be responsive. No reputable broker needs an agent like that using the company name on his business card. The broker would rather leave your relative with a satisfactory experience in selling her home, or cut her loose altogether right away, knowing he did all he could to make her happy.

If your relative feels bad about treating her agent/relative this way, tell her to tell him that her money and time were on the line and she needed to do what she had to do. If he doesn't understand the importance of time and money in a real estate sale, he really belongs on another planet, not in the real estate biz.
