re: The statistics coming out of Chicago are pretty grim. Most Latino and black boys are dropping out by the 10th grade to join gangs. And yet, Chicago is being heralded in the media as experiencing a renaissance. Makes you wonder how Chicago is keeping the lid on its Latino and black neighborhoods. Don't know. When I lived there I had close friends that were "ghetto" teachers. Wow, they had some guts... facing up to danger every day. Talk about dedicated... and they loved it. It was all about the kids to them. Even walking to their car after work was risking getting raped or killed, every day. Don't know what is happening now.
