The fact is, abandoning Iraq now would have devastating consequences to America in the future.

Well it took a couple of paragraphs, but this is the crux of the matter. This is what i thought you were saying.

What you call a fact is in fact debatable. We may well be doing more harm than good for America by staying in Iraq. You don't have to hate America to want us out quickly. It's a defensible pro-America position. But i don't think you're willing or able to see that. And thus you see character flaws instead of policy differences.

re:"The argument has to do with whether or not we should abandon Iraqis in their hour of need."

How many "hours of need" should we give them? Who are we fighting there that will give which Iraqi's help in their "hour of need"? Can you list the different enemies we are fighting? How many are there?
When do they, whomever they may be, take charge of their own destiny? What is they need that we haven't tried to give them?
Is the surge working or do you want to wait for Patreus's "honest" report to tell you? Are you naive enough to believe that Patreus will come back and tell Bush that he is failing???

Can you explain the Bushies statement that says, "if we leave Iraq, the terrorists will follow us home"? Wouldn't their targets be softer here right now then they are in Iraq fighting a powerful military force with the best weapons in the world? That simply doesn't make sense.
