To measure where the producing US economy is - one must look at real things. The latest US railcar shipments are contracting strongly with the rate of change falling deeper into negative territory. Retail sales are following railcar shipments lower. Truck haulage and load/miles are falling too.

There is a real, physical contraction in American economic activity. This will eventually have to show up as contracting earnings of many American businesses. Once that is finally seen on Wall Street, the US stock markets will have to follow the descending US economy downwards.
