Bush like Hitler, says first Muslim in Congress
By Toby Harnden in Washington
Last Updated: 3:32pm BST 16/07/2007

America's first Muslim congressman has provoked outrage by apparently comparing President George W Bush to Adolf Hitler and hinting that he might have been responsible for the September 11 attacks.

Addressing a gathering of atheists in his home state of Minnesota, Keith Ellison, a Democrat, compared the 9/11 atrocities to the destruction of the Reichstag, the German parliament, in 1933. This was probably burned down by the Nazis in order to justify Hitler's later seizure of emergency powers.

Why don't liberals care about Muslim women in these dreadful countries? Why don't Muslim men respect their women in these countries? Why aren't they held accountable by the world for their treatment of females?

DALLAS — A Richardson-based Muslim charity and five of its officers are scheduled to go on trial here today on charges related to claims that it funneled at least $12.4 million to Hamas... he trial comes at the end of a long-running federal investigation that began with FBI agents surveiling officials of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development at a 1993 meeting in Philadelphia.

A 2004 federal indictment alleges the group was set up in 1988 to provide financial and material support to Hamas, a radical Islamist group that sponsors suicide bombings in Israel and has gained political power in the Palestinian territories.

President Bush closed the charity by executive order in December 2001 and froze $4 million of its assets. At the time it was the largest Muslim charity in the U.S...

The 42-count indictment alleges that the foundation supported Hamas through donations to charity committees and other organizations in the West Bank and Gaza under Hamas' control. It also accuses the group of funding "family members of individuals who were either 'martyred' or jailed for terrorist related activities..."

Although press accounts dating to the mid-1990s suggested links between the Holy Land Foundation and Hamas, it was not known until the government brought its indictment in 2004 that four defendants are related to high-level Hamas officials...

Among those on the prosecution's witness list is Mohamed Shorbagi, a Holy Land Foundation fundraiser who pleaded guilty last year to providing support for Hamas. Prosecutors said Shorbagi, an imam at a Georgia mosque, attended meetings with high-level Hamas officials...Shorbagi, who received a reduced seven-year prison sentence, promised to testify for the government in other cases.

Four of the five Holy Land defendants have been free pending trial.
