>>Of course it was a conscious choice.<<

is a choice. they are doing it today by allowing mahoney to hide and cover up and by allowing cardinal law to retain his promotion after all his dedicated service of child rapist cover ups for the catholic church.

>>Don't you think that's what I meant by inexcusable mistake?<<

it is a mistake, but an ongoing one - and unrepented mistake isn't much of a mistake. the fruits of valuing child raping good ole boys above innocent children says a lot about the tree that continues to produce those fruits today.

the catholic church leadership has responded to this much like the criminal who is sorry that his bad deeds got him caught and bad press, not that he did the bad deeds.

>>I believe those that covered up pedophilia should also be dealt with by the law (I assume they broke the law). <<

the pope disagrees. he promoted cardinal law. mahoney is very safe in his position. it seems the pope has a moral disagreement with you (and i).

even non religious organizations know what to do when one is found covering up important information...

oh, and no kids were raped b/c of his cover up. he still got axed. my guess is mahoney and law get annual raises. minimizing bad press isn't easy for these pr guys.

apparently, it works, though. not so many folks can figure out the evil that resides within the catholic church leadership.
