"with the Democratic majority plus three key Republicans ready to vote for an exit strategy for Iraq, the Senate has enough votes to pass legislation that would force President Bush to bring most troops home by April."

I don't get that math. That's 54 votes - not enough to even pass a bill, even if they get EVERY Dem., which requires 60. It takes 67 to over-ride a veto.

I have to check this out but I think you are mixing things up. I believe it takes 60 votes to stop a filibuster; hence, a controversial bill takes 60 votes because opponents will filibuster to stop it but I think a bill that is not filibustered can be passed with a simple majority. You're probably right about the # of votes needed to overcome a presidential veto.

I'll check tomorrow.
