"I always felt the government was on the people's side."

I've only occasionally felt that, but this is the first time I've felt that public opinion was irrelevant.

I've been around a long time and never seen anything like it. I always felt the government was on the people's side... now it seems they have a different agenda than what's best for the country. They are in competition with reality; they are in competition with the people. It's so un-American and sickening and scary, all at the same time.

Yup. I have never seen the American public is such an adversarial position with its gov't. I have never seen so many public figures blatantly condemn a presidency as this one. And I have never seen a president so unconcerned with what his constituents want.
