hello slagle, we must define "durable" and be more specific about what civilization is.

to me, traits such as family values, thrift, education, etc can define the culture and civilization.

by those measures, the chinese filipinos are holding true as a group, even when the weak amongst the group fail to keep up.

the ability to evolve so as to survive is also an important trait, and so some superficial adaptations are just that, adaptations and superficial.

i have been down in manila quite often in the past few months, and have had to mix with all types, at the behind the scene ruling levels.

observation, the nation is still run by distant descendents of spanish-ish filipino families in the main, perhaps as many as 15 families, but now they have to address and deal with chinese families by and by, perhaps 3-4 families. the approaches of the two groups are very different, and they would measure well internationally. their objectives very much the same - to own and operate.

the fact that all of them may not measure up should they relocate to china or america or japan is not important, because in the philippines, they anoint winners and decide on losers.

as to chinese ruling the world, that is a misunderstanding on your part, for that is definitely not what teotwawki is all about. the chinese, by culture, is content to let the world rule itself, unlike america.
