You know Allen, a lot of garbage gets tossed around on SI as if it were fact. Several people on SI promised me WMD's would be found in Iraq, after we'd given our invasion enough time to find them. They were wrong. Did they do mea culpa's? Not likely. Some people are still saying WMD's were found :-) A huge percentage of the country still thinks Iraqis were involved in 9/11 (a smaller percentage than formerly believed this, but still, considering you can easily fact check this- it's a huge percentage, imo.)

I don't hold out much hope that the oft repeated comfort memes on either side will disappear. They do tend to change, but not because people no longer believe the old memes. People just get bored, and need to add new ones- usually equally stupid when compared to the old ones.

Add a fourth question to the Iraq WMDs went to Syria...

Who drove the trucks?

Must have been Saddam and his two sons!

Kay and Duelfer had piles of money to give for WMD information and I'll be darned none of the truck drivers, loaders, unloaders, etc seemed to want the money.

Yeah...Saddam and his two sons had all the drivers, loaders, unloaders, etc., killed. Who did the killing?...Saddam and his two sons??

And on and on...

Just like the stories we were fed about the Iraqi Nuke scientists that would certainly spill the beans if only we could take them outside of Iraq for questioning...

And ohmigosh...David Brooks column this am in the Times...

The Almighty is telling Bush to spread "freedom". No doubt Brooks thinks this is a real positive part of Bush's "resolute character".
