"I tend to equate never with my own lifespan."

:-)

"Maybe the internet will speed up the process."

Well, I for one *do believe* that many things move faster in our modern 'globalized' world then they did previously --- even political change and social change.

(Still --- for the Middle East as a *whole*, not just parts, to become fully equal to, say, the Cantons of Switzerland in freedom and respect for pluralism... I believe we are talking a half a century or so at minimum. And, that is assuming we get Uncle Sam's meddling out of the way in an expedited manner, the better to allow the natural forces of civil and religious war to assert themselves and accelerate the historical process of social evolution.)

But with continued outside interference and meddling giving reactionary elements convenient excuses to blame all of their region's problems on? (Then double or triple, at least, the expected time frame....)
