Dale;

But the damage was limited and reparable by a more moderate successor if that is what we get.

I disagree. The damage done to America's reputation - especially in the ME will take generations to repair. The Iraq world is worse than building a country from scratch - it is a country completely ruined. The infrastructure has been destroyed. Before they can build a government, they to reestablish basic necessities that we take for granted - water, electricity, sewer. People of ambition and resources have left the country - how are you going to rebuild it with criminals and terrorist and people who hate each other? We get blamed for the entire mess by the Iraqi people. You can argue if that is a reasonable blame or not, but from a pragmatic standpoint it doesn't matter - it is a fools argument. To think that the Iraq mess can be repaired by electing a democrat (or a responsible republican) - is - IMO - naive.
