"One of the unsettling trends now is that the developed world has gone from about 30% in 1970 to about 20% now...."

Of WHAT?

(I'm not sure that statistic makes any sense. With well more then a Billion people in China... and near a Billion in India moving their national aggregates rapidly *towards* 'middle class' status --- to mention just those two countries, let alone the many other countries also advancing economically --- I don't see how *any* definition of the 'developed world' could be showing smaller percentages of people in it then back in the 1970s!)

Hell... in the early 1970s most of Mao's billion people were in abject rural poverty... and even Japan and South Korea, Taiwan, etc., were much further down the economic ladder then today!)
