And it is plain old sponge cake, I see, too. Twinkies used to remind me of those circular thingies (4 to a package in stores everywhere) that would magically appear during strawberry season. I think they are available year round these days. I've always associated them with shortcake - bet I will find out that they too are sponge cake.

That party was an excellent idea!!! Those neighbors sound like my knd of people. Now that you mention it, I don't think I have ever eaten a Suzie Q. At one time or another, I've have sampled all the others mentioned so far, HoHos, Ding-Dongs, etc. When I was probably 11 or 12, I split an entire box of ding-dongs with a friend in one sitting. As you can imagine, we both got pretty sick. I have not eaten one since.
