Peter,

Couple chuckles hidden there.

1. At least ThomPson didn't say, The "P" is silent, just like in swimming.

2. If the other Thomson's comment was in French, It could be taken as an insult to Venezuela as P and COUNTRY sound the same in French.

e.g. Je m'appele Thomson, sans pays, comme Venezuela.

I agree, it would be nice to see his original line.
++++++++++++++

"I'm Thompson, with a 'p', as in 'psychology.' "

whereas the other (Thomson) said:

"I'm Thomson, without a 'p', as in 'Venezuela.' "

Peter

P.S. If anyone knows what the original French version of this was, I'd love to find out.

Wonder if ex-senator Fred Thompson (now an actor on Law and Order) is going to jump in here. There's a good precedent for an actor...

Reagan went from acting through union leadership to politics. Surely it's different to go from politics to acting and back? A minor role in Law and Order doesn't seem as much a springboard for President as Governor of California.

In the French version the twin (but for the mustachio)detectives are Dupond (avec un D, comme Demosthene) and Dupont (avec T, comme Theodule). I believe your "'p', as in 'psychology.'" quote come from "The Black Island", unfortunately I do not have the French version home. (I do have the spanish one though, where -Page 2, cartoon 7- señor Hernandez o al señor Fernandez answers the phone without identifying himself.Traduttore, tradittore I guess.)
In German they are known as Schulze & Schultze (Ja, mit t,wie Tüte).
