It's a hard quote to understand. Reason is the "wisdom of this world" which Paul wrote that those who are perishing are blinded by. He also said the gentiles (unsaved) reside in the futility of their own minds. Reason and the wisdom of this world can only lead to the conclusion that God does not exist and that's a dead end trap. It traps everyone through reason to a life of unbelief , the antithesis of faith. So reason is the enemy of faith. Only by shutting off reason can anyone use their faith to see God. 1 Corinthians 1:19 For it is written," I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE,AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE." 1 Corinthians 1:20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS";
