I remember in God said "Ha"- Julia Sweeney's book about her family's experience with cancer, she said you have these two competing emotions- the "I am going to be healthy so I can live forever" one, and the "I'm going to die anyway so I might as well enjoy myself" one. :-) We all toggle between those two poles.

Very sad to hear, Rambi. Can your father-in-law speak at all?

Maybe get your mom-in-law some calmative tea like chamomile or valerian, (if she can stand its pungent flavor).
