first time i saw a tick was rhode island. my little daughter i was brushing her hair and something ran along her neck.. i grab the thing and it was a tick. in pa our dog would come in loaded with them , we used collar etc. didn't help. neighbors spray their hold yard, trees monthly, they have an outside firm come in with a pumper truck and spray. of course they have four dogs and six cats. (very well taken care of and an electric fence, never hear a dog barking etc.)
my son came back from a day of paint ball in the woods near poconos mountains,, comes out of the shower says i feel something on my back will you check.. yup tick. got it off.

in new jersey we just had a kid die of tick bite from wood area in a play ground. It was carrying some strange disease like plague? forgot what it was.. but serious and not in the this country or two or three cases a year.
we are loaded with deer here and they all carry ticks. last year just cutting the lawn on a rider mower i took three of them off me. i wear long sleeves , hat and long pants when cutting lawn or trimming hedges.
