<<I presume you must mean it would improve the stability of the oil producing nations (primarily the Gulf sheikdoms, Iraq, Iran and Saudi), since oil is the reason the stability in the region is important.>>

Ahhhh....I see now, that's where we're amiss. I'm not presuming that it will help stabilize each individual nation, I'm presuming that it will stabilize the REGION visa-vi Arab relations with the west and the appearance of our extreme bias towards Israeli policy. With a separate Palestinian state brokered with our input, Arab sentiment towards us, the west and Israel can be greatly improved by eliminating that grievance. This takes a huge focus of tension out of the equation thereby opening an air of tolerance as opposed to the mess that we have now.

f you don't mean that, what is the benefit to the rest of the world of improving stability in the part of the ME that has no oil (Israel-Pal), if the oil possessing regiosn don't change a bit? If it doesn't improve the situation in the oil rich countries, solving the Israel-Pal thing is sorta nice, like solving the Sri Lanka civil war would be sorta nice, but in the big picture it's about as important as.....solving the Sri Lanka civil war - ie, not that important.

You are being logical here, Elroy. If Israel fell into the sea tomorrow, it would not solve the problems of the other 99.9% of the Middle East one bit. However, to be fair to Michael, he is just believing what Arab leaders say in public. They all say that Israel/Pal is the crux, that nothing can be done without solving Israel/Pal first.

Then they make damn sure to pour gasoline on the Israel/Pal conflict so it can never be solved. They can't do without it.
