The whole concept used to gives dates for end times events was wrong. They linked all the dates to 1948 when Israel became a nation again after almost 2000 years. The idea that after 1 generation (40 years) in 1988 the Lord would return was a mistake. Jesus said that the generation that saw these things would not pass away until all these things take place. So within the lives of a certain generation the whole end times scenario will play out is more correct. But is Israel actually a sign post to link the end times to? If not then saw what things take place exactly? What are the signs? Did Jesus ever say Israel being recognized by the UN was a sign? Recognizing the signs of the times, not setting dates, is how to time the events of the last days. Before the last days can play out the 3rd Temple in Jerusalem must be rebuilt. Two Temples have been built before and destroyed. Surprisingly to you probably every single piece needed to do that is sitting near Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. Attempts to blow up the Dome of the Rock (the most holy Muslim shrine) which is in the way have been thwarted by Israeli forces to avoid more wars. There is one proposal to build the 3rd Temple without the outer court so the Dome of the Rock can stay where it is and not be in the way. The 3rd Temple would be a sign. Another sign would be the signing of a new peace treaty with Israel assuring their safety. This treaty would be different than other treaties and would signal the beginning of Daniel's 70th week which starts the "time of sorrows" Jesus talked about. That also starts a 7 year countdown to Jesus returning.
