Sure, we are stuck within evolution and markets too. But we can do a lot of choosing and thinking.

I certainly didn't mean to suggest that we are like wind up toys, governed almost mechanically by evolution and markets. There is of course a lot of room for free will to do its thing. In fact, free markets are a terrific means of expressing free will.

Evolution has had its day.

I thoroughly disagree. You may think so b/c it grinds away so slowly and unnoticeably, but it is there.

It's funny to watch humans playing out their silly little national tribal alpha male territorial dominance hierarchy dramas.

Well, sometimes it is funny, as when Mussolini strutted about, but at other times it is deadly and serious and nasty. Not a bit funny.

I am not holding my breath for machine consciousness.
