I'd say. I'll bet he's not much fun, either.

He reminds me of my father, who budgets $100/month for food and repeatedly tells me so, and how he makes it work. His "frugality" has become a religion to him. I have been blaming it on his being a product of the depression but I see now that young students can suffer from it, too.

I think your student makes good points but carries them unduly far. I'm more comfortable with the $15000 figure, although I admit by my use of "comfortable" to a not fully objective conclusion. JJ
