Of course, one can't go on roads where cars are going 65 or more....I suggested that the electric cars, or golf carts go on roads that are about 35 mph.....If that was the model where you live, my guess is it would be pretty relaxing for everyone even in the downtown area.

Unless you are saying that the speed limit is 65+ in the downtown area...in which case............YYYIKES!

Yes........I'm afraid you're right that in most environments golf carts would only be a hazard. I have no doubt that the incident of accidents and highway deaths would increase substantially if they were allowed on most roads. At this point the idea really is impractical .

But the fuel savings advantage might encourage some small cities to allow them within a certain range of the main core.

From my house to the main downtown are what my city considers to be sidewalks, but in reality they are just white lines painted to designate the walking area from the roadway. The area designated for walking is about 8' wide and could accommodate golf carts very well. And you know..........very rarely do I ever see people walking on those "sidewalks." They run along busy roads, and there is a certain risk involved, but they are intended for walkers, so the city must think they are safe enough. I don't see why golf carts couldn't be allowed as long as they don't get decked out in such a crazy manner that the distraction alone causes auto accidents.
