It has already happened to tens of millions of people. It happened in the USSR, in Nazi Germany, in Mao's China and in too many other countries to mention. In all cases, it happened when the Executive Power gained the ability to write its own laws and have them enforced despite the judiciary and constitution of the nation it governed. That is now happening in the US.
