Israel is hardly the sole interest of america...... ,America lacked bases in the immediate area...the soviets were making inroads....the english and french were withdrawing.... a power vacume was threatening ..in an area of stratigic communications importance(the canal) and oil importance. I am sure many saw israel as a conviniently placed bulldog ,on a solid american leash ,watching over the interests of the seven sisters. journeytoforever.org

If the arabs laid down all their weapons, there would be peace. If Israel laid down its weapons, Israel would no longer exist.
