Re: ...wouldn't it be something if the final endgame was to satisfy the Saudis (once again!) by arming the Sunnis fully, give them needed intelligence and logistic support and turning them against the Shia in a calculated bloodbath sceanario aimed at "balancing power"?

Yeah... that would be 'something' alright.

(Something unmentionable!)

Also: something INCREDIBLY STUPID and harmful to American interests --- since it is utterly unnecessary to leave our fingerprints on any civil or regional war that happens subsequent to our pulling out.

Since it's most likely going to happen ANYWAY, why on sweet Earth would we want to allow militants and extremists in the region to then gain a propaganda value by blaming everything wrong on 'evil' old Uncle Sam?

Any American politician who actually did something so harmful to our interests should probably be charged with treason --- (or else just quietly shot... :-)

ESPECIALLY since our military and the CIA has LONG reported that the Sunnis have *no shortage* of munitions or cash available to them at all --- Iraq was awash in munitions stores after the overthrow of Saddam... and our guys say the Saudis and other rich Gulf Arab Sunnis are fully resupplying the insurgents all the time!

Stupid, stupid idea....
