I've done quite fine on $12k a year through school, and I've got by on less than that before. I don't starve, by any means. I have cable (basic), cable internet, and I go out to eat quite a bit. I don't use credit, my truck was paid off this year, and I don't have a cell phone eating up $50-100 per month. I live in a brand-new apartment, I was the first tenant to ever live here. It's not hard if you separate "wants" and "needs".

Indeed! But necessities are also a function of the society we live in. In Rwanda, I suspect, a car is not a necessity. But in much of America it is (Manhattan a notable exception). It is not on the same level as food or water, but it is necessary nonetheless.

See: those of different political persuasions can sometimes agree with each other!

And sometimes perceived differences are figments.
