Not really. You never hear about the lawsuits that AREN'T filed, do you? No story there. My mom had a rock solid lawsuit with a hospital where a nurse had misread her chart and given her ten times her insulin dose. Fortunately, by pure chance, her doctor walked in right after, checked the chart, noted the overdose and immediately gave her IV glucose, preventing her coma and perhaps death. This was all fully documented on her chart, and the doctor admitted and apologized for the mistake, promising to speak to the nurse.

Mom didn't want to make a fuss. No harm, no foul. No lawsuit.

re: Everyone is a victim. Those who spill their hot coffee all over themselves are "victims." Same with those who bought into sky-high stock valuations, only to lose their bets. Or a black firefighter who had a prank played on him.

Another one of those urban myths. Take an isolated incidence and spread it over the entire population. How many people have sued for hot coffee? One? Two?

re: I repeat: Filing a lawsuit is as easy as walking off a cliff.

You don't know WTF you are talking about. Try it some time. Unless you are on really solid ground no lawyer will touch the case.

Maybe, but winning a lawsuit is not.

Chris, another cause of so many frivolous lawsuits is the whole "victim" mentality here in America.

Everyone is a victim. Those who spill their hot coffee all over themselves are "victims."

There is always the outlier lawsuit that makes you feel comfortable with maintaining your extremist position but the truth is most lawsuits are not frivolous.
