KLP:

It makes you wonder who/what the root of the problem is. I suspect we are all guilty, to a degree, of trying too hard to make our kid's lives better than ours was. Perhaps we all did too much.

Kids these days seem to be unwillingly to sacrifice and save. They are impatient and want to start their lives on a par or better than their parents. I guess since they weren't around during our early struggling years, they may not understand or appreciate that.

Well, I am old enough that I have actually lived through much of the two extremes and if you include my parents nearly all the extremes. Sounds incredible, but I actually used AN OUTHOUSE in part of my youth. I still remember my mother on the back steps washing clothes with a SCRUB BOARD and a BUCKET. I took a bath ONCE A WEEK in a BATHTUB, no shower.
But, against all those hardships (which at the time didnt seem like hardships) there was the good stuff. Great outdoors, good hunting and fishing nearby. Close friends, safe neighborhoods lots of activities to keep a young man happy. Skinny dipping in the lake or stream. So, all in all, the only thing I am willing to admit is today is MORE CONVENIENT. Its also IMHO more lonely, you just dont have the same interaction with people I grew up with. Neighbors arent that close anymore. etc etc. jdn
