Now, everyone knows how I feel about this situation - I think, if convicted, Vick should be banned from the nfl. I'm concerned that some technicality is going to get him off and the Falcons, NFL, Vick's lawyers and everyone else is going to try and exonerate him. I hope that doesn't happen but I always worry about sports figures getting off with a slap on the hand because thats what has happened their entire life. They were great athletes and so every coach, teacher, professor etc. has gone easy on them in an effort to keep them on the field and it REALLY bothers me. That said, he's innocent until proven otherwise. On that basis alone there is just no way the NFL can suspend him right now. The Falcons could put him on paid leave but they can't withhold his pay until its been proven that he's guilty. If they did anything else they'd get sued. I don't like Upshaw very much because as a union president he always goes too light on players - thats his role. Yet another reason I don't like unions. Where I think you're going over the top is by comparing to a child rape. What he's alleged to have done is terrible! I can't really find a way to overlook it. BUT - its still a case involving animals. As bad as it is nothing rises to the level of involving a human being. He didn't kill a person and he didn't rape a child or anyone else for that matter. Do I think the guy is a bum - yep! DO I think this is unacceptable behavior? Yep! DO I think he should be banned if convicted? Yep! That said, there is NOTHING that rises to the level of killing or raping a human being. This is a really bad crime but the difference between killing dogs or people is a big one. The rape comparison I reject because I believe that is even worse than killing a person. Raping a person is like killing them each day for the rest of their life. I see people getting easy sentences for rape and child molestation and yet, IMO, these are people that should be jailed and NEVER let back out into society again. If Vick is convicted he should be put in jail but we have to be careful not to make human comparisons because there is a difference.
