What type of animals were they bred to hunt?

And just so LB can't say we weren't talking about PfP's, if these little dogs were running France today, we could be pretty assured that things wouldn't be as "squishy".... These fellows run things with a pretty firm paw.

My little Paps were bred to be cute, but actually they were mouse chasers in the 1500-1600's in Flemish castles. The Ladies loved them, and there are many paintings of the period with them on the Ladies laps...
