i found it interesting having been to the toptier site a few months back when bmw sent out a marketing flyer on new additive, bmw fuel system cleaner plus.

i was confused watching a news clip about a month ago covering toptier gasoline on national news. The newscaster was at a xonmobil station talking about the benefits of top tier gasoline and xonmobil is not listed on the site.

why did she choose or producers choose to use the xon station, either they know zero about who is top tier or are a bunch of actors who read prompters for the evening news. i believe they know zero and send us crap over the news , they sell what ever they think will draw viewers right or wrong.

the impression from the news clip was xonmobil is top tier.

I noticed that our Texaco station had a sign over their prices that said,"Techron added". I was so thrilled that I knew what it was and could give my husband an informative lecture on gas and additives. :)

It's had nothing but the best gas and oil and apparently it likes it.. :-)

My Moped dealer told me to stay with high octane and synthetic oil. When a fillup is only 3/4 of a gallon, you don't sweat it. :>)

those are companies that have applied for toptier rating. not the list of retailers who sell the good stuff.

i wonder how and who represent toptier.. is it a chevron tie in with bmw, gm etc. texaco advertising use their own additive.. tex is a chevron developed additive and brand name. texaco is owned by chevron. i doubt they would put in a competitor branded additive or generic chemical when they retail in parts stores the tex name.

All of the industry puts in a clean additive it is just a question of quantity , i doubt there is much of difference between basic chemicals.

I suspect some engines are more picky then others. for instance, I have 3 jeeps with 4.0L engines. Thats the old workhorse of Jeep. Mileage on one is in excess of 200k, the next is 127k, and the last 89k. I run whatever I feel like it in those enginges, though Chevron is my favorite. I do run some techtron through now and again when I think of it.
My 4th jeep has the 5.7L engine with MDS. I am very careful with that jeep as the engine looks so high tech to me. If I am not running COSTCO's gas I run Chevron. jdn

This is just another marketing ploy.

Chevron bought Texaco and Unocal so they are all the same now and let any one of their trucks fill up any of their stations AFAIK.

Exxon knows what it is doing by not paying any marketing membership fee. And look who's at the top. QuikTrip. Do a search for top tier gas credibility and you get their marketing angle.
