Looks like you are another one who is not reading the entire thread very carefully.

It seems that you are stuck with the concept that a martyr, strictly speaking, is someone who chooses death for reasons which are acceptable to you.

I disagree with that notion. I think martyr encompasses anyone who chooses death on account of a cause, any cause.

But if you wish to use the term as meaning someone who chooses death for reasons acceptable to you, that's fine. No big deal. I don' think it's the proper use of the word, but I won't argue, except to state emphatically that personal attacks on posters who use the term in the broader sense I prefer are totally off the mark.
