Well, there is no doubt the Republicans right now are in a world of hurt. No prospective nominee can fully embrace the President's positions on Iraq and immigration. Even Rudy is starting to inch away...claiming that while the mission is worthy, the leadership and execution are terrible...This is the best the Republicans will be able to do unless things change dramatically in the next few months. More likely, it is abandon the President entirely and claim to speak for a "new direction".

Can you imagine the President and the nominee on the dais of the Republican convention next year, arms around each other, with the nominee having to give lip service to continuing the policies of the past eight years?

It was easy for Bush I to do that...he had Reagan to run on. The next nominee is going to have a harder time explaining why the key policies of the past four years should be continued.

Frankly, I don't want all branches of government in the same parties' hands..and I am not a big fan of Hillary. But right now she wins against all comers (unless the nominee on the republican side breaks openly and hard with the President).
