Isn't that what I already said? Except in my version there was no "must" to it. The "respect for symbols" is a culture that the powerful promote so that they won't get tired from having to exercise their power every time people just don't bend over for them by default.

I will look into the books you suggested...you may benefit from this and others like it. amazon.com

As long as those symbols continue to represent the good principles upon which they were founded, I agree with you. When in doubt throw them out. Fresh ideas with innovative symbols, founded on decent human principles, keeps the world turning in positive directions, as teenagers have learned generation after generation.
