For one, [mobile] processor performance is less important, while power consumption, especially at idle, is more important. And Intel doesn't do as well, especially on the platform level.

Can you flesh out this claim in more detail?

Performance is *always* important, CJ. Plenty of c. 2003 1st generation Centrino laptops have low idle power. And many of them ran at the same 1.6GHz that some laptops still run at today. But good luck trying to sell one of those today with nothing but a low idle power story....
