"It's your premise that's a myth. Neither of these scenarios are likely yet you present them as the only two choices."

No myth. Those two choices represent the ends of the continuum of outcomes (Stable Nation or genocidal wars) and they are definitely realistic as I've stated. Certainly some combination or slight movement toward one continuum or the other, based on events of the near future, is reasonable to expect.

"Iraq is in a civil war. If we left, this so called government of yours would cease to exist. More likely Iraq will end up as 3 separate nations."

Calling the situation a civil war is just your attempt to discount the mission of the American government and the Nationally elected government of Iraq. You don't support that mission because then you couldn't espouse pure enough hate for the American Administration if you did, but you aren't honorable enough to admit it.

It is possible that Iraq will be split into separate autonomous nations. Without the presence of the US military this would only have happened with massive genocidal conflict. Now that many families are relocating according to regional similarity of demographic make up, the conflict to separate (if it occurs) would be lessened, although not eliminated by any means.

"More likely Iraq will end up as 3 separate nations. That's what Iraq wants. Only by force has it been held together as one nation, never by will. But you dream of something else, so that something else must be a fact of some kind."

Absolute partisan/anti-partisan nonsense. Save it for arguments between yourself and your counterpart extremists on the right.

"Vietnam was more serious than Iraq. In the Cold War we faced powerful, superpower, nuclear enemies which could wipe out our entire nation."

People who are informed take Iraq very serious. Your comparison between Vietnam and Iraq doesn't fly.

Vietnam was not a superpower enemy with nuclear capability to wipe out our entire nation. Nor did the forces wanting power declare the intent to destroy America if they could achieve their goals. The French colonialists had been defeated in a revolutionary war fought by Vietnamese. Enter the USSR. The USSR was a superpower enemy during the cold war and the USSR was seen as an cohort with the North Vietnam communist enemy. The South Vietnamese who we supported were willing to fight against communist rule. With continued growth and threats from the USSR, it was reasonable to be concerned about a future attack on the USA from the superpowerful USSR. The USSR collapsed diffusing that threat. Vietnam could be called a civil war between the north and south, one favoring communism the other liberation from communism. Both sides wanted a nation that would be a democratic republic.

Iraq is also not a superpower enemy. The enemies in Iraq are enemies of the Iraqi National democratic government but the enemies are not a government and don't necessarily have that or democracy as a goal, nor do they claim to represent Iraq or any goals for a Nation of Iraq. They are special sectarian groups who in the short term want to create schisms between themselves and other groups, so that they can acquire rulership over a particular region. Further down the road each intends to conquer rival sectarian groups and rule greater regions. Some have support from external groups and most have been given assurances that one nation or another would come to their aid and back them if all out war between sectarian groups were manifest. Various sectarian radicals promote the development of a world caliphate with one goal among many for that caliphate to be the destruction of America. In addition to Iraqi sectarian conflict you have outside fundamental fascists who hope to create an Islamic Empire and are in Iraq as a front line of their war to achieve their goals. There is potential for any of these enemy groups to acquire superpower strength but not in the near future. If any of them are successful in acquiring power they do have the clear intent to destroy America and given a few years they should be able to acquire superpower strength. This is one good reason to support the success of the Iraqi National govt (and there are many others) ... the National Government you refuse to recognize or support.
